Alternative Programs

Lethbridge School District No. 51 offers a wide variety of program options for students. Please see the links below for more information on the programs offered throughout the District.

Fleetwood-Bawden is proud to house a Montessori alternate program for students in Grades 1 through 5.  Although there are many similarities between our regular elementary classrooms and that of a Montessori classroom, some of the distinguishing features that make it unique are as follows:

  • a teacher educated in Montessori philosophy and methodologies appropriate to the age level of the students;
  • a program which is characterized by the teaching of subjects in an integrated fashion wherever possible;
  • a schedule which allows large blocks of time to problem-solve, observe and understand interactions and connections in knowledge to create new ideas;
  • a diverse set of Montessori materials, activities and experiences that foster physical, intellectual, creative and social independence;
  • multi-age classrooms to foster a sense of community.

The staff of Fleetwood-Bawden work closely with the Lethbridge Montessori Society to ensure quality Montessori programming and community support.

Please note that bussing transportation is provided to those who are registered in our Montessori program and live outside our school boundaries.

Winston Churchill is proud to offer students the opportunity to take a full Diploma in the International Baccalaureate Program.  The full Diploma is completed in addition to the High School diploma offered through the Province of Alberta.  The International Baccalaureate Program promotes rigorous study within 6 dicipline areas that promote students to develop international perspective and awareness.  It has a strong service learning component that promotes community participation and development.  It provides students with a comprehensive educational experience that teaches them skills, attitudes, and ways of learning that will prepare them to engage in intellectual pursuit for the rest of their lives.  It provides students with exceptional opportunities at the High School and Post-Secondary level.  Since its founding in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Baccalaureate Organization has grown to include more than 1700 Diploma Programme schools in 126 countries around the world. This growth reflects world-wide respect for its comprehensive and balanced curriculum and its rigorous international examinations.

Lethbridge Christian School (LCS) is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 program whose mission is to "challenge students to life-long excellence, as they grow in knowledge and love, and in obedience to Jesus Christ". Besides providing an excellent Christian education, LCS offers a strong athletic and music program. As a provincially recognized Alternative Program, we can offer quality Christian Education at a very low cost.

Immanuel Christian Schools include Immanuel Christian Elementary School (Pre-K to Grade 5) and Immanuel Christian Secondary School (Grade 6-12) campuses. These schools strive to provide a Christ-centred education and environment for students in all areas of learning including academics, fine arts, athletics and special needs programming. As a biblically-based, interdenominational model, we invite you to connect with the Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta to see if this program is a good fit for your family in partnering with us.

Immanuel Christian Schools are affiliated with The Prairie Centre for Christian Education (PCCE), Christian Schools Canada (CSC) and Christian Schools International (CSI)
